This week's recipe is courtesy of dishingupthedirt.com. My Gallatin Valley Botanical CSA included carrots this week and I'm super excited to make this recipe with local ground lamb. You could also use local goat from J-Bo's Farm 51. We can't get much more local than goats and carrots raised within 1.5 of the gym:-) Click on the link for the recipe. Enjoy! Will it, PLEASE, stop raining so we can run outside again!?! Changing our habits can be HARD! The right combination of will power, momentum, discipline and accountability all need to coalesce into a series of successful days. Those successful days build into weeks and the weeks build into a month, and finally you're habit is changed. Of course, there are pitfalls, back steps, and swerves all along the way that challenge our ability to stay on the rails. As I am meeting with each of you for our Summer Check-in I'm hearing a common theme emerge, you want your body to represent all of the hard work you do in the gym. In other words, you want to look like the badass that you are. Basically, you want to look better naked. Of course you do! We all do! Well my friends, we can't out CrossFit our diet. That is why we're doing a August Nutrition Challenge. However, instead of telling you what you can't eat (because sometimes that sends us down the binge path) we're telling you that you should eat MORE. That's right, the 800g Challenge is a program based on abundance and fullness. You will develop the excellent habit of weighing your food, you will feel better, have more energy and look better when you eat enough fruits and vegetables. We have partnered with Optimize Me Nutrition to deliver this 800g Challenge. EC Synkowslki is the OMN #bosslady and CrossFit OG who developed the #800gchallenge. We are SUPER excited to announce we are running the Optimize Me Nutrition 800g Challenge in August. For the last 2 years we have promoted a Locavore Challenge in August, and while that has been fun, it hasn't had the results we wanted. We want YOU to eat MORE fruits and vegetables. Yes, your grandma was right, you need to eat your greens. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with magical properties. Ok, not really but they are loaded with micronutrients like vitamins and minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants, fiber, and a very important good for you macronutrient - carbohydrates. Why 800g? There's been some important research that shows 800g is the optimal amount of fruits and vegetables we should eat for health. This is 800g of weighed food NOT 800g of a macronutrient. Before you freak out that you can eat that many carbs, here's what 800g looks like. This is a nutrition challenge of ABUNDANCE not restriction. You earn daily points for eating 800g, working out, and you can earn bonus points for food diversity, locally sourced food and a weekly challenge. We will have an info session about the #800challenge at the gym the last week in July. The #800Challenge starts Monday, Aug 5. We will awards prizes for the winner and lots of other fun stuff for all participants. Be sure to read the info-sheet below for all the details and info on how to do the #800challenge.
