One of our #stayhome Bingo squares is to have a virtual coffee date with someone from the gym. When we connect via text or even over the phone we don't see the smiles, frowns, furrowed brows, and other facial expressions that are a vital component of human communication.
We are excited to help you get that Bingo square (and perhaps a few others) during our virtual Coffee with the Coaches meeting Sunday at 9 am. Please join us for a morning fireside chat with a hot cup of joe. I promise no judgment if you're seen adding an adult additive to your mug:-) During our Coffee With the Coaches, you are free to ask us any questions you have about remote coaching, at-home workouts, nutrition, stress management, or what our plan is for reopening the gym (yes, of course, I have a written plan!) We are here for you and we can just hang out and tell tall tales if that's what you want to do. Coach James has an impressive collection of "Dad Jokes." Prepare yourselves:-)

Can't wait to get together for a beer with you all, in person, again soon. From the very first day of our #stayhome order I have been concerned about our social distancing turning into social isolation. In fact, I started using the phrase physical distancing rather than social distancing in my conversations with people. Because we all are so physically distant from each other, it's more important NOW that we remain connected socially. We are social creatures and it's our deep emotional social bonds that give us joy and fulfillment. Right about now you're either lonely, totally ready to spend time with someone outside of your #stayhome crew or both! I have never spent so much continuous time with James. One of our #stayhome Bingo squares is to have a virtual coffee date with someone from the gym. FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, RingCentral, FB Messenger, and Google Hangouts, amongst others, are excellent tools to help us see people's faces. When we connect via text or even over the phone we don't see the smiles, frowns, furrowed brows, and other facial expressions that are a vital component of human communication. They’re on the menu daily:-) Aahhhhh...it's Friday. TGIF! Do you feel like all of your days are running together? Is Friday indistinguishable from Monday? Yeah, me too. One of the ways I have been making the weekend special is by cooking something special. Last Sunday, James and I made a prime rib for Easter Sunday dinner. The weekend is a great time to make something delicious. I especially love cooking things on the weekends that provide leftovers and something that I can reuse in another dish. You can use your chicken bones and scraps from today's recipe to make broth. Freeze the broth or use it to make chicken noodle soup. One of our Bingo squares is to share a recipe. Do you have new one or an old favorite one? Share with us in the comments! Today I'm sharing this roast chicken recipe from The Splendid Table. I have a Splendid Table cookbook that I just might make my way through, à la Julie and Julia. Click on the image for the recipe. Enjoy! You could do pushups like this with your #stayhome peeps. Are you having fun playing our #stayhome Bingo? I absolutely love seeing photos of your freshly made beds, your sweaty glowing post-WOD faces, and your delectable dinners. Keep 'em coming! Two of our Bingo squares are focused on helping you relax and reduce stress. ROMWOD, short for Range of Motion Workout of the Day, is the Yin style of yoga. You passively hold the yoga postures for 1 to 4 mins. Your body will eventually relax into the posture and your muscles will release. When your muscles release tension your stress and anxiety will follow. ROMWOD is a pretty slick App and you can filter sessions by body parts, time and exercise movements. For example, you might seek out a 20 min session focusing on releasing your lower back after a workout that had burpees. Enter those criteria in the filter and BINGO! You have a customized ROMWOD session. All of our members have free access to ROMWOD for 45 days via the gym membership that I purchased at the beginning of April. It's our gift to you for being such amazing, loyal and dedicated members. The other Bingo square that will help you relax and reduce stress is to sit (or lie) quietly for 10 minutes. All of us CrossFitters know, 10 minutes can feel like an eternity. However, you might be surprised at how quickly 10 mins can fly by. As you're quietly sitting (or lying down) you can pray, meditate, count to 1000, or simply focus on your breath. The idea here is that you step away from a screen and step into yourself. Many people So many people think meditation is eliminating all thoughts and gaining a "clear" mind. Nothing could be further from the truth! Our goal with meditation is to recognize that we have thoughts and to let them go. In other words, don't get caught up in the ticker tape of thoughts that will certainly race across your mind and build a story with them. Recognize that you're thinking, again and again, and then let that thought go. If you have trouble with this a guided meditation can be helpful. There are many to choose from and I especially like to use Insight Timer. Lots of folks prefer Headspace. It doesn't really matter what you choose to use, as long as it works for you. |
