Z presses are on the menu today. You can modify them by sitting on a box rather than the floor. Mercedes and Ava are crushing our #stayhome Bingo game. How is your game coming along?
Today's #stayhome Bingo highlights are to do a workout with someone from our family (or your #stayhome crew) and do a workout inside your home. I have been loving my Check-ins with all of you. It is remarkable to learn that we ALL are sharing the same struggles. One of the most common struggles is working out alone. We are all missing our TSCF tribe something fierce right now. While not all of us have family members who are CrossFitters, we can certainly have some fun together. Today's workout is an easy one to do with your family. Non CrossFitters often ask me what makes CrossFit so special. Sure the workouts are demanding, intense and effective. Yet, that is not what makes is special to ME. Most of you know that I am a Marine. I shipped off to bootcamp when I was 17 and spent the next 5 years learning about teamwork, integrity, grit and trust. One of the hardest things we Marines must learn when we transition into civilian life is how to trust people. For us, trusting someone means you want them in your foxhole when things go south. It's hard to navigate that when you're no longer in the military. CrossFit has helped with learn how to trust people. When I see someone next to me who is working just as hard as I am. Someone who is willing to embrace the suck. Someone who is willing to eek out that last rep with 3 seconds to go. That is someone I can trust. I want that person with me in my foxhole. Doing CrossFit with James, and all the rest of you at the gym, has helped me trust people again. Doing a workout with your family will show you just how fantastic they are. Doing something hard with your family takes your relationship to a new level. You will see their determination and grit. You will see them dig deep to finish. There are not a lot of opportunities in our daily lives to see just what someone is made of when the rubber meets the road. Doing CrossFit together can bring you closer. Share with us your experiences of doing CrossFit with your family or #stayhome crew.

We're having fun with Turkish Get-ups today! Get creative! Is there an odd object at home you can use? Yesterday I blogged about the importance of supporting our local businesses. Soon, our #stayhome order will be lifted and we will all have to navigate our new normal. Let's face it, there really is no returning to business as usual. We will continue to have social distancing, sanitation and other measures in place to continue to minimize the risk of a second wave of a Covid-19 contagion. We are working on a reopening plan. It includes all of those things plus a reduced schedule, smaller class sizes and other measures to minimize congestion during classes. Our current stay home order is set to expire this Friday, April 24. If it is not extended, we will offer one class on Saturday at 9am. It will be capped at 8 people. We will announce the new class schedule before Monday if the all-clear is given. Today's #stayhome Bingo square highlight is giving us a review on Google, Facebook or Yelp. Reviews are an important component of a businesses "social proof." Think of all the times you have read the reviews of a business before you patronized it. The king of all reviews is the Google review. The more Google reviews a business has the higher it will be listed in a Google search. Interestingly, Google makes it a bit of a challenge to give a review. You have to take a few steps to give one, and that's perhaps why they are so important in determining which business is listed before another in a Google search. We currently have 31 Google reviews. I think we can do better! If you have not yet given us a Google review, earn your #stayhome bingo square today! Yelp is also emerging as an important advertising tool for business. We have only 12 Yelp reviews. If you have already reviewed us on Google, please give us a Yelp review. Facebook reviews are probably the easiest reviews to give and have the least impact on a Google search for a business. If you've already reviewed us on Google and Yelp, why not complete the trifecta? To make it easier to give us a review, here are links to our Yelp and Facebook business pages and detailed instructions on how to give us a Google review on your phone. Thanks so much for our kind words. Your reviews are a big boost to our business and to the good feelings of the coaches. Thanks! https://www.podium.com/article/how-to-leave-google-review/ https://www.yelp.com/biz/true-spirit-crossfit-and-yoga-bozeman https://www.facebook.com/truespiritcrossfit/reviews What's worse wallballs or thrusters? Someday soon you'll be doing wall balls again!
Rejoice! It's #takeouttuesday and #tacotuesday. You can refuel from today's crispy couplet with something to go from your favorite local restaurant. There's not doubt the restaurant industry is getting clobbered by the covid crisis. I am friends with the owners of a local family owned restaurant. They were open for take-out for the first week of the shut-down, then the take-out orders dwindled to single digits in the second week and they shut down. My heart broke for them. They went from hundreds of customers a day to less than 10 take out orders a day in a matter of 2 weeks. If we want our local economy to survive and rebound after the all-clear is given, we need to support it now. A great way to do that is through #takeouttuesday and buying a gift card for use later. Both of these things are #stayhome Bingo squares. Ordering take out on Tuesday gives us a fun treat at the beginning of the week. It's hard these days to find ways to celebrate life and ordering take out is a way to make today special and to support a local business. Buying a gift card for lunch for a gym buddy is a Bingo square that is a win-win for all involved. You feel good for supporting a local business and doing something nice for a friend. Your friend feels loved and so will the restaurant when you meet up for lunch later. Click here for a comprehensive list of all the restaurants that offer take-out. Enjoy your #takeouttuesday and remember to share which restaurant you ordered from with your quaranteam or in our Facebook group. Coach James and Kerri do a weighted run, way back in the day, before we officially opened! Get ready to run and be outside today!
It's easy to feel stuck during this #stayhome order. It's easy to feel stuck in a rut, or stuck inside, or stuck on a problem, or stuck in a cycle, or stuck to the couch. The good news is that we are NOT stuck. We are especially lucky here in Montana that our #stayhome order specifically allows us to go outside. Thanks Gov. Bullock! Getting outside has a boat load (yes I'm ready to float the rivers!) of benefits. First, it's a change in your perspective. Sometimes that's all we need to enable us to solve a problem or get unstuck. Other benefits of getting outside include:
One square that you can easily acquire today is to do a workout outside your home. If you have a mat or something relatively clean you can do the entire workout outside. I plan to do today's WOD in my neighborhood park. The other square is to send a outdoor recreation selfie to your coach or post on social media. Your outdoor recreation can be in your backyard! You don't have to travel far to have fun outside. So, let's see those photos. Let's share our outdoor adventures. Just because we have to #stayhome it doesn't mean we have to be stuck inside. |
