One of the most challenging aspects of our #stayhome order was, of course, our isolation from friends and family. Even though our #stayhome order is lifted, we still need to practice physical distancing from our friends. Boo hoo:(
Because we can't hug, or shake hands, or give actual high-fives and fist-bumps, we have 2 #stayhome Bingo squares that are designed to help us be supportive and give words and Emojis of encouragement to each other. I absolutely love encouraging people. When I say something positive it helps change my mindset as well. These past 6 weeks I have given more fist-bumps and comments on Beyond the Whiteboard than ever before. Now that we have a Strava club I have been giving Kudos and comments to all of our TSCF peeps and several of my college friends who I haven't seen in years. I love to see where people are hiking, running, climbing and cycling. I just learned from one of our TSCF folks that you can attach photos to your Strava post. I can't wait to integrate that into our #getout challenge! Obviously, one of my love languages is words and I just love telling people how amazing they are. That's also why I write this daily blog and send postcards to people on their birthday and TSCF anniversary. Receiving something in the mail is almost nostalgic in these digital days. Receiving a kudos card every month is our way of telling our members that what you do matters. It's our way of celebrating your firsts and bests, and it reminds you of your accomplishments. How many times have you received your kudos card and forgotten that you actually did that thing? Right! Most of the time. Why not pay forward that feeling and handwrite and mail a note to someone? It can be a distant family member, a gym buddy (ask your Coach for their address) or it can even be to your Coach (we like to hear we're doing a good job too:) We need more positive vibes these days and giving someone encouragement on BTWB, Strava or via a handwritten note can be just the thing to make you BOTH feel good. Let's fill our world with positiveness!

Have you joined us on Strava yet?
Strava is a free App that makes it ridiculously easy to record all of our human powered adventures. When we walk, run, hike or ride we can record our distance, make a map, take photos and share all our outdoor adventures with our True Spirit buddies. We have a TSCF Club on Strava and we want YOU to join us. Our first #getout club adventure is Sunday, tomorrow, at 11am. We are meeting at the Hyalite Road Parking lot and walking, running, or riding up Hyalite Road as far as we like. Family and well-behaved dogs are all welcome! Please respect the 6-foot social distancing guidelines. Be sure to join our True Spirit CrossFit Club on Strava. We are going to use it for our #getout challenge in May:-) Click on the link below to join our club on Strava. Today is our last full day of our #stayhome order. Tomorrow, Sunday, we are free to #getout.
One of our #stayhome Bingo squares is to share a photo of you (and your family) doing a puzzle or playing a game. Tami had a good time putting this nostalgic puzzle together with her daughter Morgan. Family game night was a big deal with my family. I remember playing Pollyanna, Backgammon, and Pente with my Mom and step-dad. I played cribbage with my Grandpa, dad and brother. When I was in the Persian Gulf War I played endless games of Hearts and Spades. Games and puzzles are a super fun way to pass time and they can bring the entire family together around the table. Your kids learn good sportsmanship skills, strategy, and the subtle art of trash talking:-) We have one more full night of obligatory staying home. However, we can keep family game night going strong even when we're allowed to #getout. Perhaps this mandatory time together has brought us all closer. Sam LOVES squat jumps. Do you love them as much as she does?
I just love cooking everything in one pot, or as in the case with today's #foodiefriday recipe, one sheet pan. The efficiency of cooking everything together makes me super happy. The easy clean-up is a bonus as well. Over the years I have shared many one-pot meals, and not nearly as many sheet-pan dinners. Here's a delectable recipe from an old favorite, The Splendid Table, with cauliflower and sausages. Cauliflower is one my absolute favorite vegetables to roast. It can be sweet, savory and is like an epicurean sponge. It absorbs and magnifies any flavor you give it. Click on the image below for the recipe. You'll see also a link to more sheet-pan dinners. These are a great way to do a big cook up this weekend. Take a photo and send it to your Coach for a #stayhome Bingo square. Happy Eating! |
