Steve does a bar muscle-up. He's been doing CrossFit for over 10 years.
It takes mental strength to see and acknowledge our weaknesses. It takes character to be willing to put in the work. It takes humility to admit you have some technique flaws and it takes strength to be willing to work on those flaws. CrossFit is the SPORT of fitness. This means we are learning new skills and techniques all the time. It also means you can spend your entire CrossFit career honing and developing those skills and techniques. In fact, the better you move, the better your skills, the better your technique, the better fitness development you will have. Rushing into movements, volume, distances, before you're ready will retard your rate of improvement. It will blunt the adaptation to the training. In short, you will not get as fit as FAST as you could if you RUSH into something you're not ready for. âImagine that, to get fitter faster you need to be smoother, better, and develop your skills and technique. That's why we are offering a 6-week gymnastics specialty course. Do you want to improve your pull-up and push-up technique? Do you want to finally get your first pull-up or learn how to cycle through multiple butterfly pull-ups? Do you want your first handstand push-up? Then YOU should enroll in our gymnastics course. We have 2 times to best accommodate your schedule, Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-7:30AM and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:00 PM. Jeremy does a power clean.
Twice a year since we've been open we have participated in a lifestyle and nutrition challenge, and we have partnered with the Whole Life Challenge to deliver those challenges. This New Year we are striking out on our own. We are bringing in our own nutrition coach, Audy Butler. I introduced you all to her yesterday. We are doing our own lifestyle & nutrition challenge for several reasons, by now we know how to do it on our own, we want to keep resources in the gym, we want to include personal goals in the challenge, and we want you include weekly accountability with a real person (Coach Audy.) We are starting our New Year Challenge on Jan 7 and we will run it for 4 weeks. Our New Year Challenge includes weekly in-person check-ins with Audy and daily accountability through Beyond the Whiteboard app. We are offering 2 nutrition levels, Scaled which focuses on food quality through a Whole30 challenge and Rx'd which focuses on food quantity through counting macros. Prior to starting the New Year Challenge you need to meet with me or Coach Audy to take measurements, photos, get your nutrition program and let us know your goals. You will receive an email Wednesday at 6:15PM with info on scheduling your New Year Check-in. The Lifestyle portion of the New Year Challenge includes daily accountability for exercise, mobility, hydration, sleep and fish oil supplementation. These 5 lifestyle choices have an important positive impact on your life. Our 4 week New Year Challenge is all about creating new habits, learning about how your lifestyle and nutrition choices affect your health and happiness and how weekly in-person accountability can be just the push you need to stick with your healthy lifestyle. Our 4 week New Year Challenge is $99 and includes four 15 minute in-person check-ins with Coach Audy. Coach Audy will be hosting a Facebook Live event on Friday at 2:15 PM and is excited to answer all of your questions. Be sure to tell us in the comments what you'd like to know about the New Year Challenge.
I am SO excited to share with you Audy Butler's story. Audy is our new Nutrition Coach and will be running our New Year Lifestyle & Nutrition Challenge starting January 7th!
Being active and helping others find success in their own wellness has always been part of Audyâs life. Involved in athletics and interested in nutrition from an early age, she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Health Promotion from the University of Iowa. Audy started lifting weights in high school but took a long break and picked it up again in 2015. After doing her first powerlifting competition in March of 2016, she fell in love with the sport and now holds multiple Montana state records.
Her involvement in powerlifting quickly evolved to coaching and along with the personal training component, she found a passion for helping her athletes (and herself) in succeeding with the real x-factor for progress, nutrition. Having done multiple weight cuts, massing phases, and body composition changes herself (going from 168 to 138 lbs and getting stronger along the way!), Audy has found a true joy for helping others identify their goals, navigate their relationship with food, and develop and execute a plan to lead to long-term sustainable change.
She is the founder and CEO of 406 Barbelle, a strength and nutrition coaching program that operates out of our gym. "Having known Leslie and the gang for years and now having the pleasure of training with them," says Audy, "Partnering with TrueSpirit to help athletes in their Lifestyle Challenge is an honor and Iâm beyond excited to be a part of it!" In addition to Nutrition Coaching Audy is also offering personal training sessions focused on powerlifting and strength. If you're stuck at a plateau, be it with your weight or with your deadlift, Audy is here to help you break through! You can sign up for our New Year Lifestyle & Nutrition Challenge NOW by clicking on the button below. â
Congratulations to Kim who earned her Master of Science degree on Saturday. She certainly lived her motto to earn that degree!
Did you know that food is amoral? That's right, food is not concerned with good or bad or right or wrong. Food just is. It is fuel. It is comfort. It is how someone expresses love or compassion. Food does not have a moral compass. However, so many of us ascribe morality to food. For many of us there are good foods or bad foods. Really, when it comes to selecting what food to eat there is only choice and consequence. You are a good person and you will remain a good person if you eat broccoli or brownies. The consequences of eating these foods are different, but you remain unchanged morally. That's why I encourage all of us to change our language about food. I regularly hear people say how good they are because they ate a certain way, or that they are so bad because they ate something they think is bad. If you want to have a particular body composition or have a specific feeling of health, the food you eat matters because of the consequences of your choices. But, whether you are a good or bad person is not dependent on what you had for lunch. I recently addressed the language of food with my friend Laini Gray of Gray Star Health. We have started a regular video series about living a healthy lifestyle. Check out our very first video collaboration on the language of food. Be on the look-out for more videos from us. Is there something you'd like us to explore and discuss? Share with us in the comments. |
