Kevin does today's Femme Fatale as part of the CrossFit Team Series competition. Today's Femme Fatale is named for a short-lived Category 2 hurricane that contributed to the formation of the powerful 1991 Perfect Storm. The potency and disaster of this storm was the subject of Sebastian Junger's book The Perfect Storm, which was later made into a movie.
Today's workout, like its namesake hurricane, is short lived. Aim to complete this workout in less than 5 minutes. Want some inspiration? Meg, Matt and Wayne demonstrate the three movements in today's workout. Today's workout is deeply steeped in CrossFit's history. When it first appeared on the CrossFit main site on December 4, 2005 it was unnamed, and was accompanied by this video featuring Annie Sakamoto, Nicole Carroll and 2-time Olympian Eva Twardokens demonstrating the workout.
People were inspired and awed by the grit and heart that these three diminutive women displayed in the video. The CrossFit community spontaneously named this workout and it stuck. Be sure to check out the video, think you can do toady's workout with as much skill, grit and heart? These three women remain an important part of CrossFit culture. Annie went on to compete in the CrossFit Games and continues to inspire us all with her incredible athleticism and spirit. The workout Annie is named in her honor. Nicole is the Director of CrossFit Training and Certification. Eva now has her own strength and conditioning business. The workout Eva is named in her honor. Today's Workout First appeared on the CrossFit main site on December 4, 2005. Today's Femme Fatale workout is traditionally a running workout. Today you have the option of rowing. Today's Femme Fatale is named for a typhoon. Typhoons occur in the western Pacific and south eastern Indian Ocean, while hurricanes are storms that start in the Atlantic, Caribbean and northeast Pacific. Today's pain-storm is named for a 1961 typhoon that had (possibly) the strongest winds ever measured in a tropical cyclone. With estimated sustained winds speeds of 215MPH, this storm was a category V super typhoon.
We think today's Femme Fatale is a category V super suck-fest. Do you have the wind to stay afloat? Today's Workout She made her debut on the CrossFit mainsite on June 28, 2005. Kerri and Lindsay demonstrate the two movements that comprise today's couplet. A Femme Fatale is an irresistible, alluring and seductive woman who leads men into difficult situations. Don't you think that is an appropriate description of the CrossFit "Girl" workouts? They are seductive and alluring and every time we meet them we find ourselves in a difficult situation.
For the next 6 days, you will meet a different CrossFit Femme Fatale. You may find yourself laying on the ground, gasping for air, wondering the what the heck just happened to you. That is how Coach Glassman found himself after he did today's workout. He was so impressed by the devastating simplicity of this workout, he named it using the same convention that the National Weather Services names hurricanes. In fact, today's workout is named for one of the most powerful hurricanes. There will never again be a hurricane using this name. The damage caused by the storm was so severe that the National Weather Service retired the name. We hope you survive the pain-storm that today's workout is notorious for causing. Today's Workout First made her appearance on the CrossFit main site on November 21, 2004. |
