Coaches Leslie and Heidi are training for an Olympic Weightlifting competition in November. It's Foodie Friday! Today is the Autumnal Equinox, e.g. the first day of Fall. Fall foods are fun and flavorful. They can also be indulgent, and here is a dessert recipe worth sharing. I found it on www.ambitiouskitchen.com. Remember, just because it's paleo and grain free doesn't mean it's calorie free. Read the nutrition information at the bottom of the recipe. It is Whole Life Challenge compliant and counts as one Fat serving if you're doing the RP Challenge. Enjoy in good health and in healthy amounts. Brian and Jen are physically and mentally strong. Brian recently completed the Bridger Ridge Run and Jen, along with Meg and Dugan, finished a Spartan Beast.
Physical strength is the goal of most CrossFitters. But, what about mental strength? Just like its physical analog, mental strength requires training and practice. Have you stopped and listened to the story you tell yourself just before the coach says, "3, 2, 1, Go?" Are the words running through your head positive or do they reflect your self doubt? What if you told yourself a different story? What if you approached the workout with curiosity? What if you let it be a great adventure, with your own path to discovery of what you're capable of doing today? Our thoughts and words are incredibly powerful. The story we tell ourselves can set us up to be a total badass, humming with tiger blood. Or we can convince ourselves that we are no good, plodding along through life like Eeyore. We are training to be fire breathers, and fire breathers have an indomitable spirit. An indomitable spirit is impossible to subdue or defeat! Believe it, think it, and you will become it! Today before your workout. Listen to the story you're telling yourself. Then imagine you are talking to your best friend. Tell yourself the same story you would tell your best friend. You can do this. Give it your best effort today and you're going to feel so great when this is over. Allison is doing her very first Whole Life Challenge! It's Whole Life Wednesday and we are on day 5 of our Whole Life Challenge. Nearly a third of us at the gym are participating in this Whole Life Challenge. I'm so proud of all of us who have decided to make profound and important lifestyle changes. The Whole Life Challenge is more than just a nutrition challenge. It's an opportunity for us to try out different healthy lifestyle practices to see which ones fit us best. This week we are challenged to put down our electronic devices. The instructions are simple.
"In our modern life, we participate in two worlds — the one in front of us and the one online. The slicker and more attractive technology becomes, the easier it gets to slip into our online life without thinking. Sure, there are things only a digital existence can offer, but the ease with which we enter that digital world can erode our connection with the world right in front of us. Tell us in the comments where and when you've noticed you pick up a device out of simple boredom.
