One aspect of the WLC that most people love, and maintain, is the weekly lifestyle habit. The folks at WLC have launched one for this week. It's especially important this week when we're bombarded with external stimulus. This week's pre-game WLC lifestyle challenge is to unplug from technology for 15 minutes.
Technology is a good thing. It can make us more productive, enabling and enhancing human connection.
At the same time, too much technology (especially in the form of phone and computer engagement) can lead to unproductive or stressful behavior: surfing social media endlessly, checking work communications outside of work hours, watching video for the sake of being busy, forgetting to engage with people around us.
Removing technology from our lives for 15 minutes is a good reminder that we don’t need it to engage with the world—it is merely another tool at our disposal. We could equally spend that time reading, in conversation, meditating—in any activity that keeps us present and grounded.
The Whole Life Challenge is about improving your lifestyle, one small step at a time. By limiting exposure to technology (rather than eliminating it), you’ll get all of the benefits of living in a connected world without the potential pitfalls.
Each week during the Challenge, we focus on a new Lifestyle Practice, improving a different aspect of our lives.
