The L-Sit is a fantastic test of core strength and stability. Check out this video of progressions to develop the strength for an L-Sit. We continue our fitness testing week with a series of tests created by CrossFit Level 4 Seattle. These tests are used to determine your current fitness level and appropriate scalings and progressions for workouts. The testing and use of the levels is analogous to belt colors in martial arts. You work in your current level, progressing towards the next. After you've demonstrated competency in your current level, you're allowed to test to the next one. These fitness levels can highlights your weaknesses and give you something to work on. Remember, our goal is to make you as generally fit as possible. The CrossFit Level 4 fitness levels allow us to assess and make recommendations for improving your general physical capacity. What the Skill Levels Mean:

Today, tomorrow and Wednesday we are conducting our twice yearly fitness testing. We repeat three workouts from 6 months ago to see how much our fitness has improved. Today we are testing our strength, tomorrow we are testing our gymnastics skills and work capacity with the CrossFit Level 4 Athletic Skill Levels, and Wednesday we are testing our work capacity with Christine.
Our Mobility Monday video is focused on our deadlift set-up. Pay attention to how you address the bar. You want to have the same set-up every time. According to KStar, "The deadlift set-up is easy: get stiff, load the hips, send the knees forward, pull back, stand up. It's a strategy athletes should use every time they approach the barbell, and it becomes increasingly important when they're tired." Pay attention to your movement. Today's Workout CrossFit or Powerlifting Total You have three attempts to establish a max effort back squat, bench or shoulder press, and deadlift. Good luck! These two workouts test your strength. They also elicit a terrific human growth hormone release in response to the heavy loads. You might be very hungry within a few hours of completing the workout. Eat more protein today than usual. Your body will thank you for it! We are sad to bid farewell to our fellow CrossFitting yogis at Breathelight Yoga. Today is the final 5:30pm restorative class. Be on the lookout for a new yoga studio, Pure Healing Yoga, opening in the same space in June.
We are also increasing our yoga options. Congratulations to Coach Noah who recently completed his Level 1 YogaFit training. He will be offering YogaFit classes this summer beginning June 20, at 7am on Monday and 4:30pm on Wednesday. YogaFit is an athletic and vigorous yoga practice designed to increase the durability and mobility of CrossFitters. Join Coach Becky today for the unknown and unknowable.
