Buck does push-ups on his fists to alleviate discomfort in his wrists.
WOW! Aren't we on a wild ride. So much has changed in 24 hours. Our doors are closed to the public and we have transitioned all of our members to remote coaching. Today your one thing to focus on is getting your at home workout space organized. Clear the area. Get some speakers. Get a cheap exercise mat or some flooring. Make a list of all the things that can be used creatively like a back pack, buckets filled with sand, bags of sand, broomsticks, step stools, etc. We are supporting our remote coaching CrossFitters with equipment rental. Be sure to email me to RSVP for one of our equipment rental times. Having a dedicated space will help you get in the right mindset to do your workout. If you're faced with clutter and a bunch of stuff in your way, that's what it will become. It will become stuff in your way. Remove the obstacles and clear a space. This will also clear the obstacles in your brain and clear a path for you to take better care of your health. We know that being as healthy as possible right now will help you mentally deal with all the other obstacles in your way. Well, it wouldn't be Friday without a recipe. Are you ready for happy hour? How about a Quarantini? I plan to drink mine tonight after I workout at home. Cheers! Click on the image for the recipe.

Yesterday I encouraged you to move your body. Today, you'll move your body, but not like we usually do in class. When I was going through my cognitive behavioral therapy program for insomnia, one of the techniques I utilized to help me fall back to sleep was progressive muscle relaxation. I want you to try progressive muscle relaxation today. Progressive muscle relaxation is a stress management technique that enables you to focus on just one thing, your body. It's a great tool to use when you're stressed and find your attention is pulled in a million different directions. Perhaps you're feeling this way today? Progressive muscle relaxation works by progressively tensing and relaxation muscle groups throughout your entire body. You will tense each muscle group vigorously, but without straining, and then suddenly release the tension and feel the muscle relax. You can certainly just lie down and do this on your own. However, I find the best way to practice this technique is to follow a guided script. Here's one from Rebecca Boskovic of The Fittest Me. I first became aware of Rebecca through my Two Brain Business mentoring program. She is a CrossFitter and a dynamic #bosslady who has a terrific podcast. Click here to listen to her progressive muscle relaxation podcast. I hope it's the best 17 minutes of your day. Today's workout can easily be adapted for at-home. At home modifications are outlined in the workout notes on BTWB.
Things are changing so fast it's hard to keep up with it all. As I stated yesterday, we are following the CDC guidelines for gatherings. As of 5pm on Monday the gathering guidelines remain for 50 or less people. With our small class sizes and enhanced cleaning procedures we are within the CDC guidelines. As soon as those guidelines change we will advise you of our next step. You can view the CDC guidelines for gatherings here. It's very, very important now that we implement and maintain many of the healthy lifestyle practices we have explored over the past years. Stress management is the number one health priority and there are so many excellent stress management techniques. Exercise is one of my favorite stress management techniques. Whether you come to the gym, do our at-home workout, or go for a run, or walk your dogs for an extra mile, or hike up Bridger Bowl, moving your body is more important now than ever. Exercise releases endorphins and we need those now more than ever:-) Exercise makes you healthier and we need that now more than ever:-) Exercise makes you happier and we need that now more than ever:-) It's really easy to slip into a state of non-movement. Your kids are stuck at home. All the bars and restaurants are shut down. Perhaps you're now working from home. You need to GET OUTSIDE! You need to get some FRESH AIR! You need to MOVE your body. As our excellent member Meg says, exercise keeps the crazy out. Let's keep the crazy out and move our bodies. |
