Pacing and consistency is an important mental and physical element of CrossFit and many other athletic endeavors. This is especially so in a short and intense workout like Helen. Often times, after a coach says, "3, 2, 1, GO!" we see people go crazy fast at the start only to seriously slow down as the workout continues. While we love the assertiveness to go for it, many times in CrossFit and life, it's the ability to pace and be consistent that will get you where you want to go. Developing pace and consistency takes practice and mindfulness. During today's workout, pay attention to your breathing, pay attention to your posture, pay attention to what you're doing with your face. The moment you notice that you're body is no longer in a good position, slow down. Once you're recovered, pick up the pace just a little bit. Resist the urge to go breakneck only to breakdown. Keeping a consistent pace that allows you to keep the intensity high is way better than flying and dying. A consistent pace helps with your mental toughness. Knowing that you can keep going, even when it hurts, is a great lesson in CrossFit that translates wonderfully to life. Today's Workout

Congratulations DOVER! You are the 2017 New Year Whole Life Challenge winner! This the second time Dover has won a Whole Life Challenge and she has finished at least 4. Here's what Dover has to say about this WLC experience and how she upped the ante to make it more engaging and appropriate to her goals: "As with my previous Whole Life Challenges I made weekly meal prep a priority. it was key to staying on track each week. This time I also drank less alcohol and ate more meals at home. Eating out can take you off your nutrition plan very quickly.
Congratulations to who Jessie K. finished second and Red Feather who finished in third.

Today's workout includes everyone's favorite lift, the deadlift, and everyone's least favorite movement, the burpee.
Why are burpees so hard? You're moving your body through extension, flexion and you're jumping. You need to maintain tension to be efficient. The burpee spikes your heart rate and makes you wonder if your heart is going to explode our of your chest. That's normal, just keep moving:-) Enjoy today's Technique Tuesday video with Coach Carol Paoli. He has some great efficiency tips. Today's Workout Gymnastics Pressing Progressions then, |
