Today is the May the Fourth, Star Wars day, and it's a fun day for us SW fans to geek out on all things related to the force.
I saw the very first Star Wars movie, A New Hope, in the theater when it was released in 1977. Back then you could smoke while in the theaters and I remember the red glow of cigarettes resembling the red glow of things in the movie.
Right about now we all could use the power of that mystical, magical force energy that binds us together. If we could only whisper, "I am one with the force and the force is with me," so we could shield ourselves from anxiety, sadness, frustration, weariness, and anger.
We have been living with the Covid-19 cloud over our heads nearly 7 weeks now. The first few weeks taught us how to hunker down at home and adapt to a new normal. The next few weeks weren't too bad, we had some fun binge watching Netflix and realized we could happily live without all the running around we used to do. Now, we're over it. It's sunny outside and we just want to get out with our friends and family. WE. ARE. OVER. IT.
Now, more than ever is when we need to be one with the force. Now, more than ever we might feel anger about our lingering situation. Now, more than ever we might feel despair about a hopeless future. Now, more than ever we need to remember that we are one with the force and the force is with us.
We, yes you and me, do not have to be angry. We do not have to walk down the dark path of despair. We do not have to give in to hopelessness and fear. Giving in to those emotions are a fast path to the dark side of the force. You, my friend, have the power to resist the dark side.
Our emotions are just "things." Things that we can let flow through us, just like the force flows through us. We can observe them and let them go. We don't have to write a story with them. We don't have to be defined by them. We don't have to get stuck on them.
We really are one with the force and the force is with us. When you're feeling wound up and full of rage. Take 5 deep breaths. Feel the force of your breath relax your physical body. Feel the force of your breath redirect your emotions. If you don't feel the force fully, take 5 more deep and slow breaths.
You are one with the force and the force is with you.
