Meg has transitioned to the split snatch and is having way more fun and success with it. We are snatching today! I love the snatch, it's my favorite lift and feels so good when everything goes well. But, for many of us, receiving the bar in an overhead squat position is painful, uncomfortable, and potentially dangerous. I have been on a mission to change many of my clients to the split snatch (and the split clean). It's much easier for those of us with limited mobility and old shoulder or hip injuries. I've hear from a small handful of people that they don't want to split snatch because they want to do it "the normal way." Well, the split snatch was the ORIGINAL way. Check out these great photos of strong folks split snatching back in the day. We always start our Olympic Weightlifting training sessions with the Burgener Warm-up. The Burgener Warm-up is a series of drills meant to reinforce specific positions and motor pathways for the lifts. If you're a split snatcher, here's your Burgener Warm-up. |
