The Power of CommunityThe thing people love most about our gym is the community.
It's very hard when you're an adult to make friends. Seriously! Think about it. Outside of school and church there are very few healthy places where we gather. The community of CrossFit sure seems like a cult to "outsiders." We use a secret language, drink a special drink, and eat a particular way. This all appears strange and unwelcome to people who are not into CrossFit. A strong community is what makes CrossFit so special. We are surrounded by like minded people who want to be the best versions of themselves. It doesn't matter what religion we practice, or who we vote for, all that matters is that we show up, do our best and make our fellow CrossFitter feel appreciated and welcome. That's a special thing indeed. We're all looking to see our amazing TSCF community show up this Saturday for NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEADLIFTS!! We invite all you zombies, ghouls, goblins, witches, and lovers of gore to see you who can pull the most from the floor. A $5 buy-in is requested from all lifters who want to compete. Cash will be pooled at the end of the night for prizes. We're looking for the best male, female, master and partner deadlift (mixed partners included.) You MUST be in costume to compete:-) We retain the right to include a few tricks on our deadlift night. NOTE: You DON'T have to compete. You can just show up and lift heavy shit.

We are not deadlifting today But we are deadlifting this Saturday for NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEADLIFTS! If you could only do one weightlifting movement for the rest of your life I advocate for the deadlift. The deadlift is simple: pick up something heavy. The deadlift is functional: pick up something heavy. The deadlift is fun: pick up something heavy! YAY! The deadlift gets its name from how the lift starts, from a dead stop. This distinguishes it from the clean, jerk or snatch which use dynamic movement and momentum to help lift the bar. There is nothing deadly or dangerous about the deadlift. The deadlift has a multitude of health benefits. It develops an incredibly strong core. It develops BONE DENSITY! Many of the women who train at our gym, including Meg who is pictured above have been warned about osteopenia or have even been diagnosed with osteoporosis. After training with us, all of the women who have been warned about bone density have reversed their condition. That's right! You can increase bone density, NO MATTER YOUR AGE, by deadlifting. Deadlifting doesn't have to be heavy to be effective. However, for most of us the deadlift is our strongest lift and we like lifting heavy shit. A great benchmark for anyone with less than a year of CrossFit training is a body weight deadlift. After that, a double bodyweight deadlift is a great goal to pursue. Deadlifting heavy, like we are doing Saturday, drives a potent hormonal response. After a deadlift day, or NIGHT, when you sleep your body will release human growth hormone (HGH) to help you recover. Human growth hormone will not only repair your muscles, it will also help you fight off illness. Immunity boosting and bone density increasing ? I'm ALL IN for deadlifting! I thought it would be fun to see the fittest women in the world left some very, very heavy weight at mere 15 minutes after running a grueling 7KM trail run at the 2017 CrossFit Games. Sometimes, we just need to watch something fun and motivating to get us psyched for a workout. I'm ready to lift heavy this Saturday after watching this. Are you? We are SO excited for NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEADLIFTS this Saturday.
Doors open at 6:00pm and there's a $5 buy-in if you want to compete. While this is a very, very casual and fun party, it is a lifting competition for some folks! If you want to compete you will give us your current body weight and age. We will use the official USA Powerlifting coefficients for age and weight to allow us to compare all lifters. For example if someone who weighs 150 pounds deadlifts 300lbs and someone who weighs 175 pounds deadlifts 300lbs who is the winner? The 150 pound person is the winner! All weightlifting competitions, be they Powerlifting (bench press, back squat, deadlift) or Olympic (snatch, clean & jerk) compares lifters based on weight. This makes it a fair contest. In addition to weight coefficients there are age formulas for junior lifters ages 14-23 and masters lifters 40 years old and older. We will use those coefficients to level the field to age. You might be a 125 pound 65 year old lifter and you can win the ENTIRE night! Let's get ready to have some fun! Today the #bosslady turns Fifty-Onederful. She is happy to be in the best shape of her lift and is excited to compete in The Tactical Games Championships in the inaugural Masters Women division in Austin, Texas November 4-6.
