Today is the fourth day of our Fit It Forward challenge. This week, we’re working on your happy. Read more about it in Monday's blog.
Fit It Forward Challenge: Find Their Genius. Everyone is really, really good at something. Taken out of context, that ‘genius’ may seem trivial, but it’s a sign of larger things. One of my favorite things about James is his genius for packing the car for roadtrips. I discovered this genius about 6 months after we started dating. We took 30 days to drive from Chico, California to Cabo San Lucas and back. We took surfing, climbing, and mountain biking gear in addition to our camping gear. James somehow made it all fit into his Jeep Cherokee with room for me and our 100lb dog, Thunder.
We spend a lot of time finding ‘bright spots’ for True Spirit members. Our collective pursuit-fitness-provides a great opportunity for nurturing genius. When one of you does something for the first time, we are all elated. It’s really easy to find genius in the gym. Last week we spent 5 days celebrating your bright spots during Podium Week.
It might be hard to uncover genius–or forget genius–outside the gym. When your husband, who is a genius at making coffee, leaves the door open too long, or forgets to take out the garbage, try to focus on the coffee today. You don’t have to forget about the other stuff, but tell him that his genius is appreciated.
The quiet uncovering of genius is a crime. If you see something, say something.

Friday's Fit it Forward Finale
If you’re happy about your TSCF experience, or joyful because of your amazing fitness, you don’t have to hand out our business cards. You don’t have to refer seven others. Instead, I want you to teach your best friend to squat. If you care about them, teach them how to do an honest-to-God, heels-down, hips-back SQUAT.
This shared model of fitness–I teach you, you teach a friend, and we can all play–is the inspirational part of CrossFit. It’s the difference between the ingredients and the cake. Fun and learning: that’s what all other programs are lacking, what you can’t get at home, and what you can’t explain if you haven’t done it with us. Most days, I can’t believe non-CrossFit gyms are still in business. And that guy teaching “crossfitness?” Don’t get me started.
The beauty of CrossFit isn’t the colorful bumper plates, or women doing pull-ups. It’s not even the “WOD.” The beauty is, “Let me show you how to squat, friend.” The beauty is CARING. We care enough to learn more, to tell you when you can do better, to share. And everyone can share.
Can you think of a better gift to give your best friend, your husband, your boss? I can’t.
I’ll even give you a prize. Post a picture of your friend squatting to our Facebook community page Friday, or email it to me, and they can do Foundations for free ($250 value.) It has to be good–you’ll have to teach them–and it has to be Friday. But if they do one good squat, they come to True Spirit for free.
Please remember we do not have in gym classes on Friday.
Record your WOD on Beyond the Whiteboard.
