Last weekend the nine folks who trained in our OCR training program had their crucible experience, the Spartan Race. Some of us ran as individuals and some of us ran as a team. Our Sprint team (pictured above) had an incredible experience working together to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles such as scaling 8 foot walls, hoisting 150 pounds 30 feet into the air, boosting up barbed wire for a 200m sandy low crawl, and hand traversing 15 feet of rings.
During our OCR training, the Sprint team formed organically and made the commitment to complete the race together. We would leave no one behind and help each other at every obstacle. The power of our team, of any committed team, was truly an unstoppable force.
There are so many mental, physical and emotional obstacles in our lives, and to have a team to help us overcome them is often they only way we can overcome them. In our society, and often times in the gym, it is our individual effort that is celebrated. However, in many circumstances by working as a team we can accomplish so much more than as individuals.
Mental toughness is knowing when you need a team to help you. All of us on the Sprint team knew that together we would have more fun and be more successful over all of the obstacles than if we ran the course solo. Is there something in your life currently with which you would be more successful if you had a team? Mental toughness is knowing when to ask people to join you.
We hope more of you join us next May for the Spartan Race. We'd like to have two teams each for the Beast and Sprint.
Today's workout is all about fast, light weights and INTENSITY! We've been lifting some heavy weights earlier this week. Today it's all about moving a light barbell as quickly as possible. Good luck!
