The Double unders are a skill that gives so many of us trouble. It took me 2 years, of continuous practice, before I finally got my first double under. Even now I am happy when I can link 20 or more together. The double under develops and demands coordination and balance. You can't muscle your way into a double under. You have to practice and develop muscle memory and motor pathways.
Once you get them though, they can be so fun and so easy to do! When you can string a bunch together you feel like you're flying. Unfortunately, it looks like you've been whipped and beaten when you're learning. While dedicated, daily practice is super important, so is having the right rope.
I have seen people go from double under zero to double under hero with the right rope. However, it's really hard to know which is the magic rope for you. That's why we have so many different kinds at the gym. When you're first learning a heavier rope is super helpful so you can feel the rope spinning. As you get more proficient, a speed rope is where it's at.
No matter though, practice, practice, practice is the only way you'll finally get your double unders. Doing a ton of fast singles will not get you a double under. Doing a ton of slow single unders will not get you a double under. You will only get a double under if you practice them. Good luck!
