Why do You do CrossFit Jessie Knowles?

What was your fitness, CrossFit, or yoga "life" like before you started training with True Spirit CrossFit & Yoga.
I was really intimidated by the idea of CrossFit before I started. I was an inconsistent runner, particularly in the winter, so I had struggled to stay in shape consistently. I did a little yoga, ran sometimes, but ultimately struggled with maintaining a healthy body weight and always felt like I was out of shape when summer backpacking season came around.

What brought you to True Spirit CrossFit & Yoga in the first place?
A work colleague of mine was a CrossFitter and I had mentioned being too intimidated to try it. But she invited me to a class later that week, and because she was going to be there for my first class, I felt brave enough to try it. I had no expectation that it would change my life like it has.

What was your first impression? Has that changed?
My first impression was that everyone was incredibly welcoming and supportive, and that there were all sorts of people with all sorts of bodies there. It was not what I expected at all! And no, that impression has not changed - it is an unbelievably supportive community filled with all sorts of awesome people.

What was the first thing fun or positive thing you experienced while training with us? 
I remember participating in the CrossFit Open only 4 months or so after starting CrossFit. And it was so amazing to be able to participate, doing scaled versions of all of the workouts. I've loved getting stronger and being able to do a few of the workouts as prescribed over the last couple of years. I LOVE seeing my progress, tracking my weights and times, and seeing the data show that I'm getting stronger.

Are you working on any special CrossFit related skill now?

This past year had some great firsts for me: pull-ups in workouts, my first Murph, my first double bodyweight deadlift, etc. so I have set some big stretch goals for 2019! I want to get a full range of motion handstand push-up, a 150# clean, and eventually a bar muscle-up.

How has you life changed since training with TSCF? 
CrossFit has made me more willing to accept invitations to hike or backpack or ski because I can be confident that I'm in shape for it, regardless of the season. I'm happier through the long dark winter months, and feel differently about my body. I'm no longer trying to make my body smaller or take up less space - I'm focused on always getting stronger and more fit.

What's your favorite True Spirit CrossFit memory?
I have a lot of these Saturday morning class memories: it's after class, I'm sweaty and exhausted and incredibly happy from such a great workout, and I just look around the room at all of these incredible people I've met, who consistently cheer each other on and support one another, and I'm just so grateful I've found this place and these people.
