Michelle, Sergeant First Class Burkhart, joined the Army National Guard on November 15, 2000, when she was a senior in high school. The summer after she graduated, she left for Basic Combat Training (BCT) in Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
She was in basic combat training during 9/11, and it immediatley became clear how seriously she needed to take her training. After completing 5 weeks of reception and 9 weeks of BCT, she attended advanced individual training for her job specialty, 71L MOS (later changed to 42A), Administrative Specialist. After returning in 2002 she volunteered to work on the security team for the Winter Olympics in Park City, Utah. During this time, they stayed in a large warehouse, which housed members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Law enforcement from all over the country. Following this she moved to Portland, OR and transferred to the Oregon National Guard, while she attended college. In 2006 she moved back to Montana and was reassigned to the Montana National Guard. In 2012 she became a sexual harassment and assault advocate and she volunteered to deploy to Kandahar, Afghanistan. While deployed she worked in the tactical operations center, overseeing missions, preparing incoming commanders/units to take command, and providing sexual harassment and assault training and advocacy. Since returning from her deployment she trains at Fort Harrison, in Helena, MT monthly and works fulltime as a Mental Health counselor in private practice in Bozeman. She will retire from the Army National Guard in November of 2020 with 20 years in service. Next year the rest will increase to 2 mins! The movements are all related to the new Army Combat Fitness Test that Michelle will complete in 2020. She has been training with us to prepare for this test and today you get to join her!
