Today's Technique Tuesday video features Shane Farmer of Dark Horse Rowing. Shane address a common issue with new rowers, how to relax and rest without losing your rhythm. All too often we see folks with a long pause at the finish or somewhere in the recovery.
Rowing is about rhythm and movement. Efficient rowing starts with an efficient recovery. Focus on fast hands away at the finish and a slow consistent slide speed during the recovery. You want a 2 or 3:1 ratio of recovery speed to drive speed. Today's Workout Skill work: rowing then, 4 x 1000m Row Today's pieces are mid distance sprints. Aim to get faster with each interval. Keep your stroke rate less than 30 and aim for your best 500m split + 10sec. We are working speed, stamina, coordination, and recoverability. Since each 1000m will take approximately 4min, we are tasking all three metabolic engines. Rest as needed between pieces. Good luck!
